newscast
28 january 2007 - it seems i was a little premature
to be thinking as 2006 closed that 2007 might be the year
this band got out and about a bit more around the uk. we're
splitting up instead. there will be final gigs, and some new
songs. we have decided to "take one for the team"
and set up a myspace page in order to more effectively share
information on a prompt basis with those interested in our
final movement. its at www.myspace.com/packinwowlin.
it's late, it's late, it's late, but not too
late.
thanks.
3 october 2006 - due to technical problems,
all has been silent here at the head-caving head-quarters.
now the gag is off, and for long distance observers, i can
tell you that we are very much alive, still with much fire
in the belly, but for music, not websites/myspace/pointless
emails telling you to buy stuff. you're bright, you don't
need telling again.
also, i add the following:
1 - manchester is perhaps not as bad as i had previously thought.
(this is obvious, since unless manchester did indeed turn
out to be the seventh level of hell, it was never going to
be as bad as i thought..... might even put it back on the
"maybe" city list.)
2 - new songs are being constructed, this is a lengthy and
painful process due to my pedantry.
3 - despite unfortunate but annoying p.a. system witlessness,
barnsley is a good place with nice people, including many,
many chav girls on nights out, which is all good with me.
the girl who propositioned the diamond, coylord and myself
in the car park was clearly a game lass to try to take the
three of us, but its just lucky for her we, like, had to,
like, be somewhere else anthat. many thanks to the gents from
errander who had clearly put all thier mates up to buying
our cd. please have us back sometime.
we have no gigs coming up. i tried to put together an astonishing
evening of solid quality tunes and hugs but its fallen at
the first hurdle and i'm just too busy right now to organise
something else.
finally, the most great of congratulations to jamie and alice
who are now marriaged and most remain together in the eyes
of our Lord until they die, and to matthew and jane who have
two beautiful baby boys (henry and arlo) to complete my under
3's blondie tribute band.
2 april 2006 - eiger was part of a "DiScover"
feature at www.drownedinsound.com,
and it was a while ago now but articles are grouped by artist
if you search for us.
also worthy of note is that eiger has been adopted by unjohn
in order to assist us in full coverage of that tricky "south
coast" part of the uk. like mad props to him.
he is at www.unlabel.net.
lastly, just to mention that although most back-slapping "youre
nice you are" type in-crowd endorsements make me want
to be sick, i recommend you look into the work of NO-QUARTER
periodical which is available in independent records shops
in leeds and in the hip cafe-bars of headingley i would expect.
6 february 2006 - two more reviews have been
done of the eiger release and are these are posted up here.
28 january 2006 - a few more gigs coming up
(see below left).
14 jan 2005 - important news... i'm proud of
our lad matthew coy, who with a few others of his posi-mates
has started a mosh-metal band on the side. http://www.eigerproject.co.uk/
for a better, cleaner life. expect songs about broken friendships,
memories, and fake 'kids'.
31 december 2005 - a review of our performance
in london is here
written by mike. we really enjoyed playing with a band as
good as joeyfat.
also, kunal has done a review of the cdx2 here.
thanks to both of these gents for taking the time.
8 november 2005 - thanks to everyone who helped
make last tuesday a good experience. the new masterwork is
now available from this site (see
below left) along with an mp3 sample from the new release
so you can "try before you buy".
21 october 2005 - The Eiger CD release do will
be at Sela Bar, 20 New Briggate, Leeds, on Tues 1st November.
Admission is free, but due to the limited size of the venue
entry will be managed by a guestlist. Meet us for drinks from
about 8pm, and then we'll play two sets, one at about 9pm
and the other later on.
If you would like to help us cover the considerable costs
of our self-financed CD release by buying a copy, the double
CD ep is £8 and will be available on the night. It will
available thereafter from this site.
Female duo The Swings from Newcastle will be playing standards
in the intermissions thoughout the night.
If you want your name on the guestlist, and haven't told me
already, drop me an email at:

5 october 2005 - if you are interested in becoming
the "face of eiger" then you may wish to get in
touch as I am accepting applications from young ladies to
staff our sales stand at the gig which will be arranged to
coincide with the first evening upon which our release is
available for sale. you should be able to get to leeds, and
be able to speak and count. applicants should contact me at

with details of what you would propose to wear on the evening,
and why in 20 words or less you feel it is important to smile.
attaching a recent picture certainly won't do you any harm.
30 aug 2005 - mint. http://www.myspace.com/gotthisfeelin
since you ask, the recording is coming on fine. if i said
it was going to be finished soon would you believe me?
6 aug 2005 - if you have been redirected here
from dom chinchilla's website, then welcome. we are glad to
have his endorsement. his description of our work would lead
me to believe that he is either in touch with my inner head,
or is someone of great taste and distinction. yes, the mp3
is old, and altho his link doesnt work you can find ours below
and to the left. we are really looking forward to our gig
with charlottefield, who are good, and also fully southern
which is a new experience for us.
23 july 2005 - had a good time at the packhorse
last night. sadly for us, we have no gigs on the horizon now,
so if you want us to come and play to your friends and family,
get in touch.
our humble requests are as follows:
- come across as semi-capable, ie. dont double book the venue,
know what "amps" and "cabs" are, don't
tell us we'll have to "watch the volume".
- think in advance about whether there might be enough people
turning up to cover our petrol.
- get a decent p.a. with plenty of monitors.
if you dont know what a "p.a." or "monitors"
are, or get "amps" confused with "cabinets",
best to put on some gigs with local bands or bands you're
friends with first.
our part of the bargain is to turn up and play our songs to
the best of our ability and put on a top show for your audience,
which by all accounts, we do.
we are not mardy little whiners or prima donnas, but we are
most definitely able to get it happening, and we are reliable
and organised. we dont need anywhere to sleep, or food or
rider or any of that stuff.
29 june 2005 - current thinking is that the
"release" will be two four track eps in a gatefold
sleeve, packaged together. anyone who wants to know more should
get in touch at ....

28 may 2005 - we had fun in good time grimsby
and are looking forward to playing there again one day. nice
people, warm reception.
our next gig isn't until 22nd july in leeds.
in other news, guns, numbers and the unemployed.
by the way, if people want to sit down and take a rest whilst
we're playing i don't mind at all. i suspect people think
i'm being sarcastic when i say that from the stage but we're
not one of these bands that needs everyone to be flailing
around in order to feel good about ourselves. i sympathise
that the power and content being launched from the stage could
be a little overwhelming and therefore it could be safer for
you to be seated.
so next time, 'rest ye weary bones'. get yourself a drink
and pull up a chair. after all you're not all still 15 years
old at a nirvana gig now are you?
if you are 15 years old, i apologise.
30 march 2005 - the gig last friday was good
fun. many thanks to the girl who told me i looked like andre
agassi, and to everyone who doesn't recognise thin lizzy lyrics
when they hear them. three gigs in may listed below.
6 march 2005 - the sign up box is working again.
anyone who signed up whilst it was broken has been traced,
interviewed for appropriateness and added to the mailing list.
thank me very much.
3 march 2005 - it has come to my attention
that the mailing list sign up box is not working. if you have
tried to sign up and have not recieved the email updates that
you have not recieved, then signify this by waving at your
computer screen now. thank you.
